More WIP.

This is a commission team I've been working on for quite a while now. I almost had them finished, or so I thought, I wasn't happy with the way they turned out before, and to add, one of the models fell off my table. So I made the decision to Strip and restart them. The pics that follow are very early stage but with my new drive to update the Blog more often, we should be able to see them grow in nice stages.
To the pictures:
This is the 'Big Daddy', the Kroxigor

Different angle, without flash.

 Some Saurii
 More Saurii
 A few Skinks
And some other 'Gator things...

Current WIPs

O.K. so I haven't been updating as much as I should, this is due to not having the facilities at home to upload my photos. so all this comes in a lump at the moment. things should change within the next 4/5 days and I'll be able to do this from home. End result, more Blogs! I'm going to aim for twice a week but we'll see how that goes.
Anyway, on with the show:

So I've started working on a Goblin Team for Blood Bowl. This is not a Goblin though, this is a Troll to go in the team. I'm really happy with the brightness of the colours on this, nice and cartoony, just what Blood Bowl should be!

Same Troll, different view, no flash.

Second Troll, Goblins can take two Trolls. This one is being sick. The strap tied round him is the only bit not painted and I'll do that once I've decided on a team strip colour.

Here's a nice photo with the sick coming right at you!

Now a Goblin team needs Goblins, I started on the 'secret weapon' Goblins this one, riding a Squig will act as the Pogoer for the team. Hopping around on the back of his Squig. The green on the Goblins skin is painted the same as on the ridges of the Trolls, to help tie the individual models together as a group. Also the blue/grey of the Squig will match the skin tones of the Trolls.

Another secret weapon is the Fanatic, he swings round and round a massive, heavy ball on a chain, dizzy and insane he spins, randomly crashing into anything he comes into contact with, even his own team-mates!

And this is the Looney, he has a Chainsaw!

That's it for now, another update will follow shortly, on a Lizardman Team I'm working on!

Open for Commissions

No pictures this time. Just words.I'm opening myself up to Commission painting, you don't want the full sob story but sufficed to say; lost job, no money, pretty good painter.
I know all that is on here at the moment is Blood Bowl stuff but that's not all I'll paint. Any miniatures, Warhammer, Warmachine, Flames, Napoleonics and anything else.

So if you're interested, leave a comment or fire me an e-mail and we'll discuss your project!

Finished now... Almost

So here's the all-but finished TFF Orc, a little harsh with the flash, but it gives the idea. All the painting's done anyway, I'm just going to put some static grass on the base and then it's finished.

I doubt I'll put another picture of it up, I'm moving on to another project using more of these 2nd ed. Orcs, I'm going to build myself a full team of them. I have about half of the minis I need for them and painting will begin in ernest once I have filled out the roster.

WIP Orc part 2 or 3

Finally got the time (inbetween sickness) to update this and write out my 'how-to'.

Boots and Straps: the were flat Bestial brown to begin with, I washed them Devlan Mud then painted the Bestial brown back in leaving dark areas at the edges and in nooks and cracks, then I highlighted the raised areas 50/50 Bestal Brown/Bleached Bone. Done.
Purple: After the 50/50 Liech Purple/Chaos Black mix, I painted Liech Purple again leaving the darker colour in recessed areas, next came 50/50 Liech Purple/Skull White followed by a further highlight 25/75 Liech Purple/Skull White. Done.
Lastly is the White: I started by painting 50/50 Skull White/Codex Grey then again leaving dark areas painted 75/25 of the same colors and highlighted with the last mix with even more Skull White in. Finally I touched the very edges of the armour and white spikes in pure Skull White.

Since this Photo I've redone the base rim so that it's black with a grey band around the middle (pics to come,  I just need to number him #88, after the year he was made.

I'm really happy with the way he turned out and hope whoever wins him (and the rest of the team) is as chuffed with him as me!! As an Orc lineman I fully expect him to never earn any skills and be cut from the team after 3 or 4 games to make room for a Goblin or a Troll. You have a lot to live up to Little Dude!!!

Further WIP

Done a little more work on the TFF Orc. highlighted the skin up and blocked in belts and straps, put some shade colour to the purple.

Method (continued from prev post):
Skin: So I started highlighting the skin with 50/50Goblin Green and Golden Yellow then 25/75 same colours, next came the same mix as before but adding in Skull White so 25/75/25 Goblin Green/Golden Yellow/Skull White, then I added more Skull White to the mix and only painted on the highest areas (brows, cheeks, knuckles).
Belt, Straps and Boots: All I've done so far is paint them flat Bestial Brown but I'll wash them Devlan Mud then add some Bleached Bone to the Bestial Brown and highlight them up!
Purple: Not done much here either, just painted all the areas to be purple with a mix 50/50 Liech Purple/Chaos Black.

 Back Picture!

By the next update hopefully I'll have the purple mostly done and have made some progress into the white.

Frame of Reference

I'm posting up some pictures of Orcs painted by Paul Benson (Eavy Metal), in issue 120 of White Dwarf, way back in 1989!

I want the Blood Bowl Orc I'm painting currently to have a similar skin tone to this. I'm trying the capture the Old Skool feel as the model I'm doing was made in 1988, hopefully I'll nail that retro look.

Step by Step

By popular demand (one person), I'm going to run a step-by-step of what I've done so far. then with the next picture update, probably on Sunday, I'll step-by-step up to where I've gotten to then.

Starting at the bottom then;

Base rim: GW Codex Grey, pure and simples

Base: As I mentioned I glued sand to the base with PVA before I undercoated the Mini, the undercoat helps to seal the sand to the base, this means when I drybrush the sand it won't all just fall off.
wash the base GW Devlan Mud, paint GW Dark Flesh, drybrush GW Graveyard Earth, drybrush GW Bleached Bone. Done.

Metal: Paint 50/50 GW Bestial Brown/Chaos Black, drybrush 50/50 GW Chainmail/Chaos Black, drybrush GW Mithril Silver. Done (for now)

Purple: wash GW Leviathan Purple. Thats all I've done so far, more to come.

Green Skin: wash Devlan Mud, paint GW Goblin Green, wash GW Thrakka Green, layer(leaving the deep recesses on the face, under the cheeks/around the eyes/where the skin meets the helmet and the edges where the skin meets cloths/armour etc.) Goblin Green. Thats it for now but the skin will be the longest process by far!

more to come

TFF Legacy Team WIP

Thought I'd best start posting some stuff.

So here's the 1st of my WIP pictures of an Orc Lineman that I'm doing for the TalkFantasyFootball 2011 Legacy Team, link http://www.talkfantasyfootball.org

Here he is! He has had his base dipped in sand, to simulate an earthy texture. I undercoated him as I do all my models with white spray paint. In this picture I've already blocked out the areas of him I want to be purple and his skin which will be a light green colour.

2nd picture. Now I've painted the base to look like earth, might need to darken it back a bit. I've painted the metal areas: helmet, buckles, toecaps and wristband with the same drybrushing technique that I used to do the base. His skin is now green but will need a few more layers of highlighting before it's as light as I want it.

That's it for now. More soon!

First Post, with Objectives

O.K. so what I'm going to be doing here is keeping a record of my painting work, both Commisioned and Personal. I'll start with some things I've already finished and then move into posting WIPs and other things I'm doing right now.

Hopefully this Blog/Plog will help to keep me motivated through slow times and gain me some exposure to getting more Commisions.

Scally, out.
